Good Morning Fellow members of the community. This once again is Fernelf of the SHoA. For the last week I have been conversing with the two co-leaders; Brimnon and Kaeglin (aka Kag). So go grab your coffee and let’s take an Intimate Look at the Mithril Knights of Evendim.
(I started my first set of questions with Brimnon)
1) First of all, I want to thank you for giving me permission to probe your brain. Brimnon is an interesting name. Is it the name you will use in game? If not please tell us what your name will be and what the name means to you.
Yes, Brimnon is the name I will use for the game. Brimnon is the hero in a fantasy novel I am writing. I liked the name so much it has become my own. I have used it for the past four years. I wanted it to be elvish but not to where it is copied bit by bit.
2) How much are you and Brimnon alike? Share with us some differences as well as similarities between the two.
Well Brimnon and I have a lot in common but he is also what I wish I truly was. He is brave and afraid to say nothing while I tend to be more reserved. Yet we both like to kid around and eat a lot.
3) I think it admirable that you write. I do feel strongly that for a person to be able to role-play they must have a great imagination. How much of your kinship's history do you contribute to your creative mind?
I knew that I was an elf and wanted to encompass the first age and the first war of the rings which were both already part of my characters history. I also knew due to the name we would have to be tied to Evendim. I wanted to be currently stationed outside Bree in the Mithril Castle. So my imagination was free to invent anything in between.
4) Tell us about the history of the Mithril Knights.
We were created from the ashes of Gondolin. We made our way to Evendim and stayed there until we were found by Sauron and dragged into the first war of the rings. We fought bravely and lost many a brave soul. In the end the war ended but the ring was not destroyed. With that we went to a council set up by Elrond and that is where Kaeglin and I took lord and ladyship of the remaining group of elves from Gondolin. We decided to settle outside of Bree due to its location and size. Since that day many a men and even a few Dwarf and Hobbits have joined our ranks.
5) The history of the Mithril knights of Evendim rings true with Tolkien’s world and the history of Middle Earth. Will your members need to be "historians" so to speak? How much knowledge of Middle Earth does one need to know to be a member of your kinship?
No you do not have to be a historian. We just require moderate knowledge. If all of us knew everything it would be quite boring talking about Tolkien as it makes it more fun to learn facts you never knew. Yet that is not to say that our friends that are total Tolkien fans are not welcome. They could teach us many things and you never know all there is to know about Tolkien.
6) Since we have broached the subject...What other qualifications must a member have?
A member must post often and adhere to the Code of Conduct. We suggest they get an IM service. Most of our members use MSN but we have a leader on all of them. As I said earlier they must also have basic Tolkien knowledge. We also suggest that members make a character profile.
7) Is it a complicated process becoming a member...take us through the life of a candidate if you will?
No not at all. First a candidate must fill out the application for recruitment. Then the HC votes on if he/she is going on to probation. If they make it we put them on a probation period of around two weeks. When the time is up we vote to either make the person a full member, extend probation or tell then they did not make it.
8) It sounds as if you make it a point not to make candidates feels pressured. I like that as it gives people who may be a little hesitant about approaching a Kinship a feeling of acceptance. If someone is interested in joining your Kinship is there a specific person they should contact? If not what is the best way for someone who is interested in joining the Mithril Knights of Evendim to get to know all of you?
No there is not a certain person to contact. We have an area on our forums for new applications. If a member does not wish to post it there then they can send it to Kaeglin or I. Currently the best way to meet the members is on the MSN messenger. I am working on a chatroom that will allow the members without MSN messenger to get to know everyone.
