Salur slowly drifts towards sleep. He fights it for fear of offending his new companion, but sleep finally overtakes him. Suddenly, he is back in Oatbarton in his family's hole. Everything seems larger, as though he were a lad. He smells the warm fragrance of newly baked bread in the window. The front door grows larger as he runs toward it. He is anxious for the first bite of meal cooked by one of the many excellent cooks in his family. As he pulls on the knob in the center of the round door, expecting to see the familiar image of his childhood home, he is instead rushed away to a dark place. There is a roof above him, yet not a roof made by any hand in Middle Earth. The roof is made entirely out of interwoven branches of nearby ancient trees. He is on small path, it seems, with frightened voices ahead. As his eyes adjust to the light, or lack of it, he sees four hobbits walking wearily along the path in front of him. They seem lost. Wanting to help the four hobbits, though he is not sure how, he runs towards them. Before he reaches them, he is swept away to Rivendell. He drinks in the warmth from the fire like a bitter tonic. It strengthens him in a way that the hobbit had never felt. He spends the longest time in this large room, just resting. He begins to feel drawn to another place, where, he is not sure. As he fights this conviction to go elsewhere, he is torn away and finds himself in the waking world again. Fernelf is standing over him gently calling his name. As he rises, he favors his arm out of habit, but to his surprise, it is feeling much better. "Wow, hobbits heal faster than I had been told!" He exclaims as he looks up at Fernelf who tries to keep from showing her guilt. A laugh escapes Fernelf at Salur's next utterances, relieving her fear that he suspected what she had done during his sleep.
"So, what's to eat?"

Meanwhile... In the old land of Fornost, once the high city of the Dùnedain lords, Niegol is brought news from Rivendell. It seems a great counsil is being held in the house of Elrond, and he is summoned. He has spent to long time in Fornost already, but the rangers have had great need for his skills. Foul wolves have increased in numbers lately. So much that a few have actually gotten past their gards and entered the shire. He has helped the rangers with tracking down wolves and healed their wounds the times they were hurt badly. But now he can not linger any longer. He quickly mounts his horse, Melwasúl, and heads south towards Bree. From there he will turn east and head for the sanctuary of Rivendell.

As Fernelf weaves her spell of sleep she waits for Salur to fall to rest. She tickles the end of his nose to make sure his slumber is deep. Assured he is sound asleep,Fernelf stands and raises her arms. The leaves around her take to flight in a merry dance as her arms call forth the wind
"lanta kaima
bragol thalion
esta sinome"
As she sings soft blue light swirls around her engulfing her essence. Tunneling the power of the light through her hands she opens her palms facing the sleeping hobbit. As her palms open the light leaves her and embraces the hobbit. Wrapping it's healing softness in a soothng embrace. Swirling unto itself it coils around the injured arm and suddenly swirls off and out of sight. The night becomes very still and quiet. Fernelf feeling drained from the experience knows she must rest.
"Amin sinta thaliolle e dagor
Quel esta"
Fernelf whispers the last words and she settles herself in for the night. Watching the hobbit for a few moments she can tell that he dreams.."hopefully his dreams are pleasant for I fear soon our waking hours will become nightmares" she thinks as she falls To rest.
As Fernelf sleeps she too has dreams. She hears battle cries. She sees a tall Eleven man....many meetings. .. Images...people of her birth race fade in and out of her minds eye....restless dreams carry her through the night.....
Fernelf awakens long before the sun rises and tends to the fire. She treads with quiet feet so the hobbit can rest. Fernelf prepares some tea and waits for it to brew. Taking a slice of the meat she lays it over the coals to simmer slowly. " strange dreams and a strange night indeed "Fernelf thinks to herself. Fernelf sits and waits for the tea and enjoys the smell of the meat as it cooks..... as the sun just begins to kiss the sky, Fernelf rises and approaches Salur...
"Salur...Salur...come waken the morn is upon us" watching the hobbit stir she feels a little guilty knowing she has used sorcery on him while he slept.
Fernelf is content when she sees Salur use his arm with ease. Reading his lips Fernelf laughs then answers "Tea and meat from the wolves of yesterday. Let us break our fast and then we will get those logs cut and secured" Fernelf takes her dagger and cuts a small slice of meat for herself and one for Salur. She then takes the tea and poors some for both herself and her friend. Filling her belly, Fernelf asks" how fare you this day"......

As Salur eats his meat and drinks his tea, he thinks about his dreams. His Gaffer used to say "Dreams are your heart trying to tell your head something." He thinks about the places he had been in his dream. Maybe his return home meant that he should return home. Or maybe the trees and the four hobbits meant he should go to the Old Forest and look for the four hobbits. Maybe the fire in Rivendell meant he should go there. Maybe it was a dream and nothing more.
"You said you were looking for the missing hobbits." He states to Fernelf who realizes he had said something, but makes him repeat it. "You said you were looking for the missing hobbits. Do your plans change in light of my news? I know I do not want to go tracking anyone through the Old Forest! I would go, but I would much rather us stay here and build our shelter."

Fernelf enjoying the fullness in her belly answers Salur. "Well..eventually I will have to find out if that indeed are the two I seek. I must get this shelter built and fortified before I can do anything. If you are up to it I do believe Morg left one of his axes behind. I need to cut down a few more logs and secure these. I did of course ask permission from the trees and they have accepted. I have seedlings I will plant so they live on anew" Fernelf held out her hand and inside lay small seeds glistening with morning dew. Fernelf put the seeds back inside her cape and walked over to the axe. Turning around she asks Salur. "Are you well enough to help me. After we get this done mayhap we can travel down through the shire and get some supplies. Maybe we can stop by your home to see if all is well there".....Fernelf chattered as she began to work....

The sun was bright, the wind light, and the grass beneath his feet was soft. His mind, though, never really took in any of these things as he wondered through the woods. He was too caught up in the book he was reading, an old tale from the early days of men that had miraculously made its way into the hands of the young Hobbit. It was fiction, not reality, but in his mind Terbil could see it just as if it were.
The sweet songs of birds danced about the breezed as it rustled through his dark brown hair. He was completely content as he wondered, on his way to visit relatives near Bree, Longholes by name. He had left a few days ago from his parents home, pack loaded to the brim with food, untensils, various supplies, and, of course, his reading. Very studious he was, always reading, always studying the writings of the world and the workings of nature. Despite his young age by Hobbit standing, he was incredibly well learned. One of the greatest minds of the Shire, or so his parents boasted. Of course, with his head stuck within the pages of books so often, he was apt at not paying close attention to obvious details of things going on around him, and so it was again as Terbil wandered from his path and had gone off the beaten trail into the woods.
It wasn't long as he continued on at his steady pace, legs swinging straight forward like a soldier as he walked, before he heard the sound of chopping nearby. Closing his text, Terbil placed it under his arm and hopped about in a youthful fashion trying to find its source.
"Hello?! Hello?!" the young Hobbit cried as he bounded from tree to tree, looking about for whoever it was that was making the noise. Then, as he rounded a bend, he stumbled up a clearing with a small camp. There was a Hobbit sitting by the fire and am incredibly short....elf?.... swinging away with all her might at an old tree, splinters flying into the air. Straightening his clothes, he ran quickly into the camp and sent the two he approached jumping up into defensive positions. This, however, didn't deter him as he let a big smile spread across his young face and bowed. "Salutations, travellers! How do you all do this fine day?" He stared both of them in the face intently, still smiling, but his gaze remained on the elf. She looked oddly familiar.
Terbil shuffled over towards he and paced around her, hand cupped on his chin as he looked over. "Pardon me, miss, but you look quite familiar. Do I know you? Have you ever been to Deephallow?"

Salur sat a few minutes after Fernelf started working. He was trying to figure things out before he started. As his Gaffer used to say "work smart, not hard". As an idea finally dawned on him, he made the decision to rise. Before his body could carry out the decision, a young hobbit jumped out into the clearing. This forced his body to carry out the order to stand, but in a defencive stance. As the young hobbit circles Fernelf, Salur lets down his guard. Hobbits are nothing to fear unless it's a momma defending her lads and lasses. In that case, a rolling pin can become a deadly weapon, even for an orc.

As Fernelf chopped at the tree sweat began to bead on her brow and her back. Something out of the corner of her eye distracted her and her swing fell short of its mark. Looking to the distraction she saw a hobbit that indeed she thought never to see again. "ol Mudborrow eh? Last I remember.... you were yey tall and slinging mudpies at me" Fernelf positioned her hand to just about her hip to indicate the hobbit's height. "It has been such a long time...and now look at you all grown up..and what is that you have there...not a mud pie I hope?'. Fernelf smiled and looked to the new arrival. Turning to Salur she beckoned him over. "Here is a fellow that used to bombard me with mud pies when he was a wee tiny thing. Salur meet master Mudburrow...uh...ummmm....I dont recall your first name it has been so long...I would not be surprised if you do not even recognize me for it has been a few years since I had to dodge those pies of yours" Fernelf introducing the two wonders what would bring master Mudburrow so far away from his home. Speaking out loud Fernelf asks master mudburrow exactly her thoughts."What brings you this way this fine morn?" Fernelf lays the axe down on the ground and drinks deeply from the pail of water. Looking to Salur she assures the him that the new arrival is safe. "you can relax...for if I recall...this one's aim is lacking...he was lucky if he got one good shot in while throwing at least twenty mud pies at me" Fernelf teases. Looking back to master Mudburrow she asks"Do you have time to visit and tell us of your travels?........

"Sorry for interupting," Salur says, remembering the idea he had had before the young hobbit had distracted him, "But if I do not say this now, I will forget...I'm mighty forgetful..." Salur tries to remember his idea again. "Oh yea! Instead of building a shelter, why don't we dig one? That drop off over there would be a great place to tunnel in. I noticed it because I was thinking of making a shower out of it. Anyways, we could have a Hobbit-hole. We could still use that tree you are felling, but all-in-all, we would only need that one and maybe another for supports." He takes a deep breath after speaking so fast and long without so much as an inhale.

The young Mudburrow stood in front of Fernelf and looked at her closely as she spoke, glancing over and bowing as she introduced Salur. He placed his hands on his hips and smiled. “Ahh… How could I have forgotten….Ferny! I remember the old days, like you said, but my aim was far better than one in twenty.” Terbil gave her a sly smile. “You were just jealous of my masterful skills with a mudpie. Oh, and the names Terbil, by the by.”
Book under arm, he wandered about the camp and looked about, smelling bits of food and some leftover tea, his mouth watering. “Mmm…this all looks good. I don’t believe I’ve had second breakfast yet.” Looking up at the two of them quickly, he bowed again. “I’m surry for my bad manners…drooling over your food and all.” Just then, Salur spoke up and voiced his idea for building a Hobbit hole. Terbil nodded in agreement. “Yes, yes, a Hobbit-hole would be quite nice. Help you I can, if you need me…though I need to what exactly your building, I have no idea what you’re doing. Oh, which leads me to wonder what you all are doing out here? Oh yes, I do believe you asked me the exact some question, but first I think I could use something to drink.” Standing, he walked over to the stream, placed his book on his pack and cupped down his hand and took up a couple drinks full. Then he stood, took up a handful of mud and began walking back, merely standing there and patting it into a ball. “I’m out here on a bit of a journey, trying to travel to Bree-land to visit some Longholes. Relatives of my family’s. Well, it seems that I became a little too engrossed in the book I was reading, a little tale about an Elf and his pet dragon, and wandered off the beaten path to…to wherever we are. Seeing that I’m lost, I’d say I could spend a few days here. I will help out, of course, in any way that you require, but I will need to set off in a while so that my family doesn’t worry. You’re all welcome to come with me if you so desire.”

Thinking for a moment Fernelf shakes her head. "we can not build a hobbit hole. It would be idea for myself since I am a short elf,but people like Nevanrial who are tall would be rather uncomfortable in a hobbit's abode." Rubbing her head in thought Fernelf adds. "besidesI have already chopped most of the logs and have woven this fine roof. I would not have chopped any of the poor trees had I known I was going to build a hobbit abode. Fernelf looks to her two companions. We can however still build that shower you spoke of."Grabbing the axe, Fernelf chops the last of the trees down. Turning to Salur she asks" Will you get my pony for me? We will have her drag these last few logs in place then we can secure them with the vine I dried out the other day. A groaning sound and then a cracking vibrates the area as the tree falls to the ground. Jumping out of the way , Fernelf checks to make sure the others are safe. Wiping the sweat from her brow Fernelf begins to tie a vine around the trunk. "Once we get this completed we can put that roof on, then lunch..and then we can escort you to your aunt and maybe check on Salur's home. We may get lucky and run into Morg and Nevnarial."Fernelf looking to Terbil asks"You did not see a dwarf and a elf on your way here did you? We had some trouble yesterday with some wolves and they went to secure our surroundings. Morg was to go to the nearest village and bring back some supplies." Frowning Fernelf adds, "I do hope they are alright". Fernelf secures the rope around the log and waits for Salur to bring her pony. "Terbil if you are hungry there is warm tea and meat by the fire. I would so much like to see that book you have there once I am done this task. Rarely have I seen a book..it would be a treat for me to look upon its' words"....

Bringing Fernelf her pony, Salur reassures her of Morg and Nevnarial's safety, "They can take care of themselves. Nevnarial can shoot an attacker before he realizes he had been spotted and Morg is strong and stout enough to be a match for the most terrible of orcs." As they work to build the shelter, the three get to know each other and by lunch, the conversation had turned to the journey they would make. "It seems we all have somewhere to go, we go together, stopping at Terbil's aunt's house, stopping by Oatbarton, and then see what we can learn of those that went missing from Crickhollow."

At Fernelf's invitation, Terbil smiles and go begins to prepare a plate for himself. "Many thanks, my friend. I was quite famished. And as for your question, I'm sorry, but I did not see an dwarf and you are the only elf I've seen."
After he had finished, he took to help them as they worked. Together, the tree chopped and worked quickly to build their home. Salur had nearly finished their shower by the time Terbil joined and Fernelf was preparing the wood and beginning to set up the supports. Hours passed, and so did the appointed time for lunch, and they worked especially hard and the beginnings of the building were starting to form and the roof was attached.
It was several hours when they finally sat down to "lunch". The group socialized and enjoyed good company as they sat down and refreshed their bodies with food, drink, rest, and companionship. After they had finished and rested for a time, they returned to work and went well into the night and the next morning. They fashioned some wooden door handles, shutters to help seal up the open windows, and simple rooms inside with thatched walls to serve as room seperation for themselves, their other companions, and anyone who may have wondered by. It was nearly noon the next day when they finished the bulk of the building they would do for now, and, at Fernelf's request, they fashioned a baracade to secure the door until they could by a suitable lock. "Perhaps as we travel we can buy some keys and a suitable lock in one of the towns, and, since we have indeed decided to travel together, we should draw straws to see whose destination we go to first. Oh, and do you think we should leave a note for you other companions?"

Fernelf sitting down after the hard work agrees" Yes it would be best if we stuck together in these times." Picking up the book very gently , Fernelf begins to read the pages within. Very quckly Fernelf finds herself absorbed in the book. Every so often she comes across a word she does not recognize and asks Terbil to pronounce it for her. After a while, Fernelf knowing she can not sit all day and read grudgingly hands the book back to terbil. 'Mayhaps I can read some more of it later for it is a lovely book and I could spend all day in the meadow just reading. But I guess I have sat for too long as it is. Turning to both of her friends Fernelf exclaims",Salur you did a wonderful job on that shower my freind..and look we have a shelter with large rooms for big folk and some little cozy hobbit holes for us smaller folk. I am so glad I let you talk me into making this shelter with both peoples in mind"Fernelf looks around and all that the three have accomplished. Sighing Fernelf gets up and tends to her pony. "I guess we better put this door on and make some sort of lock for now then we can be off". Fernelf holds the door so Salur can secure the hinges. That chore done fernelf looks to her two companions. "I am ready if the ponies are ready". Fernelf checks her bag and counts her healing herbs. taking some of the meat and placing it in the bag Fernelf asks the two hobbits to go fill the water bags. She waits for them by her pony. She looks around at her new home and her heart feels warm. She thanks the gods for bringing such wonderful new friends into her life.......smiling...then frowning as a niggling fear creeps up her back. "I do hope that whatever adventure we find, my new freinds will remain safe"........lost in her own thoughts, Fernelf waits for those precious hobbits she now calls friends......

Seeing the bushes move indicates to Fernelf her friends have completed their task. Looking to both she asks "where shall we start? I do know you Salur must check on your house and I do know that Terbil must see to his aunt. Decisions...Decisions.....well I leave it to you two to decide". Fernelf checking to make sure all provisions are in her pony's packs Looks to the two. Salur looks to the west and to the east. "Say"'he responds...Fernelf you go with Terbil and escort him to his aunts while I make a quick trip home and I will catch up to you after I know everything is secure there. I can check on Nevnarial and Morg on my way. It is better if you two stick together " Salur thinks aloud.
Fernelf agrees. 'Ok it is decided then. Terbil I will go with you and Salur can check on his abode. We need to leave a message for Nevnarial and Morg just in case they return before we do. Since you are the writer, mayhaps you have some parchment and ink you can spare? Do not give out any specifics just in case the wrong person finds the note." Fernelf helps Salur ready himself and packs some meat in his bag. Hugging Salur she entreats "Take care and stay off the Main roads" brushing a imaginary piece of lint of his sleeve she adds, "hurry back to us safe and sound".......
Both Terbil and Fernelf wave goodbye to Salur and watch as he disappears around the bend. Fernelf sighs and looks to Terbil "Now lets see how we can word this note so both Morg and Nevnarial will know where we are but the wrong people wont....
Suddenly Movement in the bushes alert both Terbil and Fernelf that they are not alone.........
